More Ontario Communities Commit to Smarter Road Salt Practices

Road salt is one tool for keeping roads safe in the winter. Yet excessive use of road salt can have harmful and expensive impacts, including water pollution and damage to road infrastructure. The Ontario Salt Pollution Coalition developed a resolution asking the province to create a uniform set of best practices for road salt. Currently, 27 communities have signed on to the resolution, including the most recent member, Oakville. Kudos to the members of the Coalition for championing improved salt pollution policies across Ontario. If your organization is interested in working on road salt issues and joining the Road Salt Subnetwork of the Great Lakes Network, please email Alana at [email protected].
